What is a dog gut microbiome test?

How does the test work?

Once collected and prepared according to the instructions, the sample is sent to the laboratory.
3. The microbial DNA is analysed
The testing platform uses third-generation sequencing technology to analyse microbial genetic material within the sample.
Why does this matter?

Does a microbiome test tell me whether my dog is healthy?
Not by itself.
This distinction is important.

- appropriate diagnostic testing recommended by your vet; or
- professional medical advice.
Researchers continue to find relationships between gut microbial changes and different aspects of canine health, but microbiome science is still developing.
